Clinical Evidence

In an observational clinical study, the antidiabetic efficacy of the Pterocarpus marsupium was evaluated in combination with Gymnema sylvestre. In the study, 35 type-2 diabetic subjects were administered with the 50 mL aqueous extract formulation prepared using 3g Pterocarpus marsupium and Gymnema sylvestre powder. The formulation was administered twice a day for 6 months. The blood glucose levels were monitored at monthly intervals. Glycosylated haemoglobin, lipid profile, and biomarkers of oxidative stress, liver, and kidney functions were monitored at three-monthly intervals. The results indicated that the combination normalized the levels of blood glucose, glycosylated haemoglobin, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and systemic oxidative stress.
